Developing for PlayStation 3 Becomes Twice Cheaper

Today Sony made one more step to attract more developers to PlayStation 3. The Japanese maker of gaming consoles has halved the price of "Reference Tool" - the software needed for developing games for PlayStation.

The package is now priced at 950,000 yen (approx. $8,600) in Japan and $10,250 in the USA.

I think this is a very timely and effective strategic move. On one hand this decision will lower game development costs and on the other hand it must attract more developers. Lack of quality titles is PlayStation 3's number one enemy at the moment.

Naturally, Sony cannot expect an immediate effect of the decision but in the middle to long run, this decision shall affect sales in the positive manner.
