DivX on PlayStation 3 - Yes, It's True
In the previous post I have talked about possible addition of DivX support to Xbox 360. But guess what? PlayStation 3 will be the first console to embrace DivX support.
PlayStation 3 is already a great device for multimedia playback. The console's Blue-ray reader can playback hi-definition video. However, DivX is the most popular format for homebrew and downloaded content.
So, this shall be a nice surprise to all PlayStation 3 owners and those considering buying the console.
PlayStation is is currently up for certification and should get the DivX support in the near future. Naturally, all new devices will ship with built-in DivX capability and the current PlayStation 3 owners will be able to upgrade firmware to get the feature. This also means that developers will be able to make use of the DivX encoding in their games.
A perfect co-operation I must say. So at least in something Sony did a great job.
